How we assure quality

What we can help with

  • Application assessment and takeover
  • Fault investigation and dependency updates
  • Monitoring and performance improvements
  • Technical debt and test coverage
  • Planned features and integrations

Regain control of software your organisation depends on

Applications often become difficult to support gradually. Dependencies fall behind, knowledge sits with one person, recurring incidents consume the team and useful improvements keep being postponed. The system still matters to the organisation, but responsibility for keeping it healthy is unclear.

We help establish a support arrangement around the application you have. That can mean taking over from another supplier, supporting an internal team or combining planned development with continuing maintenance. We confirm the relevant expertise and access before agreeing the engagement.

Start with the application and its operational risks

A takeover begins with the work the service supports, its users and the consequences of failure. We review the code, integrations, hosting, deployment process, available documentation and known issues. Source access and conversations with the existing team help identify what needs attention and what remains uncertain.

The findings become a prioritised plan. Urgent faults and security updates sit alongside test coverage, performance, technical debt and future features. You can see why work is proposed and how it relates to the service’s operational needs.

For a Rails application, our Ruby on Rails support and maintenance service explains the takeover and continuing care in more detail.

An experienced team behind ongoing improvements

Support has been a core Bit Zesty service since 2009. Depending on the work, an engagement can bring together engineering, technical leadership, QA, UX, product management and DevOps. You get the expertise needed for the application without having to fill every role yourself.

For Serious Readers, we took over an e-commerce application when the previous agency no longer had a Rails developer. The work included code upgrades, hosting improvements and repairs to an unreliable ERP integration. Our work on the GOV.UK Trade Tariff continued beyond the initial rebuild into support and improvements.

For Clarify Capital, we took over support for its bespoke Ruby on Rails application from its existing team, then extended the platform with customer and reps portals and integrations with DocuSign and Salesforce.

Agree what support includes before it starts

We define how issues are raised, prioritised and escalated; who approves production changes; and how progress and remaining risks are reported. Support hours, response expectations and any out-of-hours arrangements are agreed for your service. Monitoring alone does not establish who will respond to an alert.

We also agree ownership across your team, Bit Zesty and infrastructure or third-party suppliers. Our technical assurance approach sets out the security and operational questions to address during supplier due diligence.

Do you need ongoing support or a defined piece of work?

A specific version change may suit a software upgrade engagement. A stalled delivery may need project rescue before continuing development. Where there is a continuing maintenance need, we agree priorities, allocation and review points around your application.

The starting conversation covers what runs today, who maintains it and the immediate business concerns. Missing documentation or an unavailable former supplier becomes part of the assessment, rather than a reason to assume a complete rewrite.
