Make the engagement useful from the outset

We discuss the problem to be solved, the skills required and the context a specialist needs to work effectively. That includes the codebase, architecture, testing practices, environments and relevant product knowledge.

Onboarding is part of the work. We agree access, communication, working overlap and review expectations, then begin with tasks that build understanding of your system. Progress stays in shared delivery tools and conversations, with code review and demonstrations where appropriate.

Documentation and knowledge transfer help your existing team understand the changes. If capacity or responsibilities need to change, we review the impact on the work rather than leaving handover until the final day.

How this worked at Easol

Easol needed additional developer capacity while its own team was growing. Our engineers joined daily stand-ups and a shared Slack channel, followed the client’s development practices and held show-and-tells.

Work included moving email templates into the Rails application, a Rails upgrade, performance improvements and features such as permissions and multi-factor authentication. The existing team could continue with other roadmap priorities while we contributed to agreed areas of the platform.

What if we need help setting the technical direction?

An additional developer will not resolve every leadership gap. A fractional CTO can help with architecture, technical investment and senior guidance. We can discuss that separately from the implementation capacity so accountability remains clear.
